Bangkok - Wat Phra Kaew

Chakri Mahaprasad Hall inside Grand Palace.

..

Took four days off before the weekend and flew over to Bangkok. Yes, mistake #1: could’ve stay for the weekend for the ever famous Chatuchak weekend market but well, I shall leave that for the next trip. At least I get to rest a lil bit more now before the dreaded Monday starts again.

Probably have walked more than 30km in these four days time, no thanks to the obligation visits to temples and palaces for first time visitors like myself. 由於沒跟團,所以也很理所當然的走了很多冤枉路。Lols.

Not gonna write some long winded travel log nor posting many photos because basically I didn’t take any many. Probably only 20 of them in total.

Hehs!

Bangkok - BTS Map

There was once someone told me in game: “do you know that you have bad sense of directions? ” I didn’t believe it back then, but now I do, haha.

Day One

Reach Suvarnabhumi Airport @local time 2:45pm. Checked in to The Inn Saladaeng at probably an hour later: it’s a boutique hotel located at Silom area, for the opening promotion price that they are offering now, I’d say it’s a pretty good bargain. Not to mention its location is almost perfect, just 5 min walk to both MRT and BTS stations.

Went to Suan Lum Night Bazaar from evening > night. Huge but nothing really impressive. Had some non-spicy tom yum goong (bad with spicy food..) and o-jian there. Not exactly very delicious, especially the o-jian, lols.

The photo says it all.

Day Two

Big breakfast @McD’s – they have bacon muffin, hmm. Took tuk-tuk and visited some wat (cannot remember by now..) and Wat Benchamabophit (Marble Temple). Tuk-tuks tend to bring tourists to some gems / jewelries shops so they can get gasoline coupons. And temples tend to close at certain time and days so it’s best to do some research while planning, lols.

Then visited the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall and some mansions around it. Again, it’s best to study some background of the places before visiting. Be prepared for lotsa walking too.

Spent time in Siam area for the later of the day: MBK, Siam Discovery Center, Siam Center, Siam Paragon, etc. Shopping malls daisuki. Love the Loft and also Steinwey & Sons in Siam Discovery Center. Staring greedily at so many of my possible future dining tables grand and baby grand pianos almost brought me to tears. Lols.

Doggy and kitties are having nice afternoon nap together-gether.

Day Three

Obligation visit to the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew. Golden gold, and yea, gold. Then walk all the way to the backpackers’ heaven, Khao San Road. Had lunch here. For some reason the steamed rice that came with my green curry is served in teddy bear shape, I lol’ed hard. Actually the place would be a lot more livelier to visit at night with some beer drinking and people watching activities but let’s save that for the next time when I have someone who is familiar with the place to guide us around.

One Thai writer described the road as “a short road that has the longest dream in the world.”

Hmm.

Bangkok

Probably the only photo I have with myself in it during this whole trip. Taken @ Wat Phra Kaew.

Continue with Day Three

Head back to MBK area after Khao San Road to visit Jim Thompson’s House. Worth a visit, it’s small but quite a nice place. They’re also having some little interactive installation art exhibition on the second floor which made me go “ooh Dm Fyp natsukashii~”.

After that it’s all about shopping malls. What made shopping nice in Bangkok is their large varieties in choices, and for the markets & bazaars, the price. Besides the usual Siam Paragon, also hopped to the Central World which has Zen and Isetan in it – the largest shopping center in SEA. But Paragon is still getting more <3: one floor dedicated for Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini & other shops with all your dream cars in it; another floor full of branded IT & electronic goods / home theater sets + expensive sound systems; even the highest cinema floor looks like some hotel lounge.

Day Four

Continue with shopping, lols. This time around covering the Siam Square as well, they have some cheap and nice girly clothes. Head to airport at around 3:30pm to catch the 6:45pm flight.

Bangkok

Bangkok sky. Sunny sunny sunshine.

Extra

It’s really warm and stuffy in Bangkok. Sweat like a pig when walking outdoor. There’s wind but even the wind is kinda warm as well.

Best food I had is probably the green curry rice at Khao San road. Best time is definitely when I was sitting by the windows surrounded by many expensive design books, staring at the busy people and evening Bangkok traffics outside while thinking, or maybe not thinking about anything.

Feels great to waste time like that.

From BKK

I didn’t buy a lot of stuff, I swear.

Yes I managed to get a copy of Ashin’s book at the Kino over there. Spent about Rm1.2k in total for this trip, including air tics, accomodation for three nights, transport, food, shopping, and everything else.

Now now, hopefully a 2-3 weeks Japan trip in two years time.

But before that, might hop to Sg at the end of this month.

..

I kinda failed at financial planning, haha.

..

Lastly, thank you to my traveling partner for putting up with all my nonsense. I know I’m always wandering off to somewhere else by myself.

Hehs.
