So goodbye 2006, and hello 2007. Wanted to write something about 2006 but gotten lazy so let’s just say it wasn’t a very bad year, probably scored 75/100.
Anyways, this first post of the year will be a movie review, since I went to 3 different cinemas to watch 3 diff movies in the past 2 days: Confession of Pain, Curse of the Golden Flower, and Sinking of Japan. Asian movies for the win. Spoilers after this.

handsome men.
First of all lemme just confess that I definitely went to this for Takeshi, he’s so gonna be one of the most handsome creatures on earth. Lol. Tony Leung is for ladies who are in the generation older than me. Oops.
Anyways, besides the very lengzai ppl, the cinematography of the movie is very impressive as well, especially the Christmas celebration scene in the beginning, it’s SO Christmas-y. Many other scenes have really beautiful scenery, including Macau, HK city @night, Tony and Takeshi’s houses, even the hospital looks so nice and pretty.
Story is kinda old, and the answer is provided too early thus lost some supposedly thrills in the end. I particular laughed at one scene: the simulation / imagination of the murdered case running through in Takeshi’s head, reminds me so much of the the Lone Island Syndrome in Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu. Lotsa violence and brutal content as well, I remember how the audience in the cinema went “urgh” after realised Takeshi’s wife is dead on the bed with her wrists cut.
Well if you’re going for the looks, this movie is good, both settings and characters. I especially like Shu Qi’s role, it suits her so well. I didn’t even mind that her Cantonese is like o_O, probably a little better than mine though. The problem is the storyline, and some other stuff which “dun feel very right”. Bgm was okay, some are good, and it seems the main theme is titled Secret performed by Ayumi Hamasaki. Wor, lemme try to get that song.

滿城盡帶黃金甲 (Curse of the Golden Flower)

The most golden ever family potrait.
Good thing is I didn’t spend my own money on this movie. The best thing about this one is probably the movie theme 菊花台 by Jay Chou. And maybe Gong Li’s acting skills.
From my point of view, the story just seems to be a royal family conflicts, and what made this movie looks “so big” are the amount of people involved in the war later. Chow Yun-Fat is quite allrite, but really nothing else seems to be so special, except the overloaded fugly gold colours, duplicated human, and probably the boobs. Lols.
But then again, I never had any China history lesson nor I’m very interested to those so I’m sure I missed out some details because of that. Didn’t even have the idea of what 重陽節 is until now. And lastly, the dub in Canto has certainly kills off lotsa stuff, we all know that Gong Li doesn’t sound like that.
Zhang Yimou’s another film Hero back in 2002 is probably better imho.
..

Dun Sink, yet. I wanna go there first.
When I first see this poster in cinema, I thought someone I know looks so much like Kusanagi Tsuyoshi. After watching the movie I thought no doubt they’re really look alike. Lols.
Anyways, this movie was never in the plan of watching, until yesterday night on our way back to Cyber we thought why not just go and catch the 11:55pm movie so yeah, this is my second time spending a new year in a cinema watching movie. And it turned out that Sinking of Japan can be considered the best out of the 3.
It’s kinda like a combination of documentary and film actually, there are lots of facts and information about the disasters (which I dun quite understand), and the relationships between the characters didn’t emphasis as much as your common Hollywood movies. I’ve gotta say that the love story sucks.
Other than that it’s all good I guess, because of the facts and all, the whole thing looks pretty convincing. If I’m someone who lives in Japan, I’ll definitely shocked after watching the movie. The effects are all rite, but if really wanna compare this to an A ranked Hollywood then there’s still some distance. Storyline is fine too, except, again, I wish they could emphasis more on the main characters, as it seems that the supporting roles (the geologist and the PM secretary) stood out more than the two main leads themselves.
Didn’t like the movie theme, which also played once in the movie, Keep Holding U by SunMin thanX Kubota, very cheesy imho. Cinematography wasn’t bad as well, the establishing shots of Japan are darn pretty. Okay I’m biased. But overall this movie scored above average in my list.
Lastly, is human the only creature on earth which will stare at the disaster when it happens? They only start escaping for life when the tsunami waves reaches its highest point. At least this is what all disaster films told me.
..
On a side note, saw this when I came back to Cyber.

Lulu got top rated for a while in AP. I am so encouraged. <3 Thank you and Happy 2007 minna san.
