Am back from a 3 days trip to Pulau Langkawi. It was good, and tiring too, as we drove around on the island for about 3 rounds at least.
Anyways, this is a heavy post with more than 40 images, enjoy. Some photos is courtesy of my pal, Lyd.
..
Transportation

Our ride for 3 days, Wira aeroback 1.3 manual.
It’s the cheapest to rent a car to travel on the island, compare to taking a taxi or renting a “van pelancong” (tourists van). We rent this car at the arrival hall of the airport, for about RM120, from the time we arrive (around 1pm, first day) until the 3rd day 4:30pm. It’s not a bad bargain, consider it’s only RM40 per day – that’s excluding the petrol though, we used up RM50 worth of petrol for the 3 days traveling – quite a lot. Then again, we spent most of our time in the car so it probably couldn’t be helped. Since it’s a manual car, I didn’t really wanna try driving it + roads are majority small and curvy.
..
Accommodation

outside of Zackry’s guest house.
Spent our nights in Zackry’s Guest House, RM55 per night, air-conditioned twin sharing with private bathroom, without water heater. Pretty nice place, though maybe not be so from the outlook, but the room is very clean and neat. People are generally nice as well, including the working ladies and guests, they’re all friendly. Too bad we are on our own schedule most of the time so didn’t spend much time there.
..
Pantai Pasir Hitam (Black Sand Beach)

Looks more like a poluted beach to me.
Located at the middle north of Langkawi, as its name, the sand is black – therefore it’s not exactly very pretty for a beach, lols. It is said that the black sand is resulted by the distinct mineral and soil composition found here, the mixture of granite with deposits of tourmaline, ilmenite and zircon. But seriously, nothing else here besides the black sand, just stop by here for 15min and take a look will be more than enough.
..
Ibrahim Hussien Museum and Cultural Foundation

Artworks.
Yea, there’s an art museum on the island. It’s located near Pantai Pasir Tengkorak (direct translation to English will be “Skull Sand Beach”, XD). Anyway, this museum is kinda hard to find, because it’s on top of a small hill, and it can’t be seen from the main road. At first we thought it’s left deserted or closed down because there’s no one there, not a single soul, except this guy who’s taking care of the museum.
Entrance fee is RM12 – not cheap. The artworks displayed are mostly done by Ibrahim Hussien himself – there are some installations as well besides paintings.

My most favourite installation.
We spent a good 30-45min in there. Taking pictures and videos is forbidden in the museum, but I am not a very obedient person you see. Wonder if this place is able to survive for long without many people visiting.
..
The Andaman

The back alley.
A mid-high ranged resort, with private beach available (I think..), either Teluk Datai (Datai Bay) or Pantai Pebble (Pebble Beach). The workers there are very polite, as they greet me with “konbanwa” ^^”. They also have a nice big swimming pool, shaded by many big trees. The beach is so-so tho, given the fact that most beaches in Langkawi aren’t quite impressive.
..
Air Terjun Temurun (Temurun Waterfall)
Just stopped by to see the waterfall from far since it was already 6 something in the evening – wasn’t too interested to climb up to the hill to see the waterfall either.
..
Oriental Village

Spirited Away.
The main attraction of Langkawi, we went there twice, once in the evening of the first day and the afternoon of the following day. Got sunburned thanks to the second visit, the sun is working too hard.
Anyways, much like most of the oriental villages or whatever villages that i’ve been to, nothing too special here, but the scenery is still good.

One of the cafes / restaurants.
There are quite some shops and cafes inside, including some duty free shops. Bought a bag and a pair of slippers. I think this is also the place where I see most tourists around.
..
Oriental Village – Rabbits Petting

Can you feel the heat.

The deer didn’t even bother to open its eyes.
Usa-chan! Lotsa usa-chan! And an extremely tame deer too. Cute stuff. Only RM1 needed to feed them. But I am stingy..
..
Oriental Village – Anna and the King Gallery

Outside the gallery.
RM5 entrance fee. But we didn’t go in, since this is not the place where they shoot the film. Only some props and sets outside of my interests, not to mention that I haven’t watch the movie yet. Seriously though, I think 5 bucks for this is kinda thing is quite a ripoff.
..
Oriental Village – Dolce Vita Art Cafe

Home Made Cake and um.. can’t read.
Actually you dun call yourself an art cafe by just hanging a few canvas paintings around yeahs? Anyways, we were here to eat. Had a longan juice for RM2.50 and a mango ice cream for RM3. Both are yummy, their longan juice is really good, and the ice cream is very nicely decorated lols. So should I assume the other food here couldn’t be too bad as well? Haha. Btw dolce vita means sweet day/life in the Italians if I remember correctly.
..
Oriental Village – Cable Car Riding & The Curved Suspension Bridge

Cable car is cool.
This is a must ride if for the first timer to Langkawi. RM15 is slightly steep, but the bridge and the scenery up the hill are really worth it. Could see many little islands and beaches around Langkawi, fresh and cool air, and the cable car ride is enjoyable. Pray that the weather is good if you’re going to the place, like what we had that day, an extremely sunny one.

UFO looking thingy.
The curvy bridge is cool. It shakes whenever wind blows. Wee. Again, nice sceneries all around. But when we had to climb back up to the cable car station from the bridge, was really tiring as we need to climb some stairs. More exercise needed for these Cyber kids.
..
Mutiara Burau Bay (Resort)

Sampan Cocktail Bar @Barau Bay.
Burau Bay is quite near to the Oriental Village and Telaga Harbour Park. A very relaxing beach.

Hornbies.
Picture above is dedicated to the Hornbies, my final project team members during last semester. Didn’t manage to see any around the bay area, but we did spot one near Porto Malai.

Really surprised to spot hornbil here – for all the while I thought hornbils only exist in zoo or the East Malaysia within this country.
..
Telaga Harbour Park

All of my Telaga Harbour Park photos turned out crap, I’m no good with night pictures. Anyways, this is one of the “richer people” areas in Langkawi – private boats and yatches parked here. Not many stuff except banks, post office, shops and yeah, KFC in this Victorian style wannabe building. We had our first dinner here in this KFC.
..
The Loaf

The most expensive bakery in Malaysia, ever.
This is a shop that I must mention, since it’s a place where we had our most expensive meal throughout the trip. It’s a bakery called The Loaf, located at / near Telaga Harbour Park. One thing that made this bakery so special is one of its owners is our ex-prime minister Tun Mahathir. So I think it explained that why the steep price (?). We had 3 buns (I dun quite remember the names of the breads), one mango juice and a hot tea = RM31. Heh.

It’s very classy inside, the buns did not taste too bad either. But as my pal said, it’s only so special because of its owners. We doubt it’ll be able to survive in this place if it’s not because of the name of Tun Ma.
..
Anna and the King Movie Shooting Set

“For filming – not for business used”
The shooting set is near Telaga Harbour Park, and it’s already closed down for now. We actually went through some searching to get to the place. Nothing much, since we couldn’t get in.
..
Langkawi Craft Complex
Free entrance (therefore we went): most local traditional crafts are able to find here namely batik, wood crafts, pewter, and etc. I first learn about the Mahsuri legend here. This is a come-here-to-take-a-look-for-once-and-that’s-it place.
..
Tanjung Rhu Beach

Imho Tanjung Rhu Beach is the best beach to swim out of the few that we went. It’s longer and bigger than the beaches above, and the beach is very flat.. wonder why. This is also the only place where I took off my slippers and play in the sea water for a bit. The water is surprisingly very clear, but looks quite deep and somewhat dangerous to me.
..
Air Hangat Village
Worst tourism spot in Langkawi imho, I wanted to leave the place asap lols, as the place looked kinda run down. Hot spring is kinda sad looking.
..
Galeria Perdana (Perdana Gallery)
This is a gallery where our ex-PM, Tun Ma and his wife exhibit their collection of stuff, including souviniors given by the companies, groups or countries. RM3 entrance fee for college & uni students, photography is prohibited. There are many CCTVs around so I didn’t do anything funny here.
The gallery is huge, with lotsa collection. All are rare and expensive stuff of course, from stones to vases, clothes, decos, antiques, cars, more cars, models, and so on. Impressive as the total of all these things should easily cost billions. Haha.
Come and take a look at this gallery, and then feel poor. ^^”
..
Makam Mahsuri (Mahsuri’s Tomb)

Tomb raiding.
Since I didn’t go to see the eagle statue at Eagle Square, I thought I should at least go visit the Mahsuri’s Tomb. So yeah, as soon as we reach there (RM3), it started to rain. Nice one.
There are something else like birds and sang kancil (mouse deer), along with a little Mahsuri museum, and some traditional snacks stalls. But our highlight here is the pisang goreng (deep fried banana) stall at the parking area, where they’re selling 10 pieces of deep fried food (choices of banana, sweet potato, and jackfruit) for just RM1. Yum.
..
Kuah Town

Kuah Town is the main capital in Langkawi, located at the south east of Langkawi. Most of the shopping malls are here. Eagle Square is here as well but I didn’t go and visit it, since I heard it’s crap and I’m fine with just the view of its butt from the outside at night.
There are shops like Starbucks, FOS, Bodygloves, Adidas, Nike and all but imho the most attractive stuff to buy from there is liquor, cigarattes, and chocolates. For the first time I blame myself for not knowing how to smoke and drink. Dutyfree ciggies are damn cheap, so as liquor, the smallest Jack Daniel is only RM28. Wee.

Souvinior from Langkawi.
Everyone is allowed to bring back at most 1 litre of duty free liquor and 1 carton of ciggies by staying for at least 2 nights in Langkawi. No limit for chocolates though, so I got alot of those. Btw, do buy your chocos at Billions (beside Langkawi Fair shopping mall), as far as we see, they’re selling at the cheapest.
..
Awana Porto Malai

Awana Porto Malai is located at the south west of Langkawi. It’s beautiful at night, nicer than Talaga Harbour Park. Star Cruises jetty is nearby here as well.
..
Paddy Field

Green, green field.
Excuse for my silliness, but this is my first time seeing a paddy field. Lols.
..
Aeroplane & Airport

Arrival.
Took the photo when we were on the road right beside the airport.
..
Conclusion
There are still quite some places that we didn’t have the time to cover actually, namely the Eagle Square that I’ve mentioned, Underwater World (which I think I’ll prefer to save the money for the Aquaria in KLCC), Wildlife Park (couldn’t find the time), Crocodile Farm (not a fan of reptiles), Beras Terbakar (didn’t go across that road), Cenang Beach (which we totally forgot, eventhough we were just staying near by), and etc etc.
Spent nearly RM500 for this whole trip, including flights, transportations, accomodations, food, tickets, and shoppings. Not too bad for a budget trip yeah?
Anyway this is my first time to Langkawi, and I believe the next time I visit the place again will be like in another 5 or 10 years time at least lols. It was fun, but I wish to go somewhere further next time. ^^
