He appears to die, tragically, in the last episode, but if you watch carefully towards the end of the final episode (after the credits), Kai finds a rose with a signature blue ribbon around it left at Saya's resting place some years later. Kai then states, "He.. did come", clearly indicating Hagi somehow managed to survive & is waiting for love, Saya. This ending left me wanting to see more. Personally I would love to see a spin-off series or movie based on the series. Perhaps, taking place once Saya reawakens 30 years later to see her & Hagi reunited, to see what has become of Diva's twin daughters, Kai, and the other characters from the original series.
